Two men were yesterday remanded in custody after denying trafficking cannabis, cocaine and heroin.

Brian Godfrey Bartolo, 41, of Buġibba, and Trevor Borg, 30, of Cospicua, were arrested after surveillance lasting several weeks, the court heard.

Sources said that the police allegedly caught Mr Bartolo selling cannabis to Mr Borg on Monday.

Further investigations yielded a kilogram of cannabis allegedly found in the vendor’s possession.

When he appeared before Magistrate Carol Peralta,Mr Bartolo, who the court heard is well known to the police, pleaded not guilty to 14 charges including trafficking heroin and cannabis and being in possession of cannabis, heroin and cocaine.

Mr Borg pleaded not guilty to trafficking cannabis, cocaine and heroin, breaching bail conditions and relapsing.

Inspector Gabriel Micallef prosecuted. Lawyer Daniela Mangion appeared for Mr Bartolo.
