The 24th successive year of Eight-Ball competitions, organised by the Malta Pool Association, will get underway late next month with the opening matches from the first ranking tournament of the season for individual players.

League championship teams will again be spread over five tiers with the Premier Division, scheduled to start in January, to be composed of the top outfits on the island, all vying for the major honour at stake.

The first rounds from the knock-out competitions will preceed the championships and the Christmas Cup has also been pencilled as the main event of the association in December.

There will be four ranking tournaments in season 2012-13 and the categories will vary from the men’s open to the women’s competition and another event for over 50 players.

On the international scene, Maltese teams will be playing in the European Championship, in England, in February, and the World Championship in June next year.

Selection matches in Malta will be played in December and March.

More details on the new season will be given to club delegates during a meeting the association will be organising at the San Antonio Hotel, Buġibba, on September 7.

One may also obtain more details on registration by phoning the association’s general secretary Vincent Degiorgio on 7949-9117.
