PSV Eindhoven begin the de-fence of their Eredivisie title today at ADO Den Haag after strike action by Dutch police meant only four matches took place on the opening weekend.

PSV were scheduled to kick off their new campaign at the Kyocera Stadion on Saturday but the industrial action forced league bosses to postpone the fixture by 72 hours.

The Red and Whites beat Heerenveen 4-1 in April to win their 22nd Eredivisie title with three games to spare and finished the season a whopping 17 points clear of second-placed Ajax – but few have tipped Phillip Cocu’s side to canter to victory again following a couple of high-profile departures from the Philips Stadion this summer.

PSV said goodbye to last season’s top scorer Memphis Depay, who joined Manchester United, and will also have to do without the services of club captain Georginio Wijnaldum after he joined Newcastle.

Cocu has appointed Luuk de Jong, who notched 20 goals last term, and Andres Guardado as PSV’s new captain and vice-captain respectively.
