The Nationalist Party is urging the Government to explain the reason behind the resignation of the permanent secretary at the Environment Ministry, Brian Montebello.
In a statement, the party queried whether a number of ministers were unhappy with the work of the permanent secretaries. Mr Montebello was one of the permanent secretaries appointed by the Government after the March general election.
The Nationalist Party said there were indications that the choice of the new permanent secretaries was wrong and was not based on meritocracy. Instead, the civil service had been politicised, it said.
