The Opposition’s motion on fuel prices will be debated on Monday.

In a ruling, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia said he was not happy with the fact that there was no established number of Opposition Days, as was the case in the House of Commons. He called for matters to be improved.

Earlier, he said the agenda House sittings was always a prerogative of the government. Unless otherwise agreed, an Opposition motion could only be debated if the House met on a Thursday, unless it was taken up by government business.

Through Whip Godfrey Farrugia, the government had explained why the motion could not be debated tomorrow but had promised a debate on Monday. The Speaker said he could not, ex- officio, order the debate to be held on Thursday.

Opposition Whip David Agius asked for a confirmation that the debate would be held on Monday and Dr Farrugia assured him it would.
