The Nationalist Party has rejected the Prime Minister’s claim that Opposition leader Simon Busuttil had made “an unprecedented attack on the judiciary”.

The PN was referring to Joseph Muscat’s comments in Parliament on Tuesday, which were in reply to Dr Busuttil’s accusation that the inquiry into the handling of the shooting incident involving Minister Manuel Mallia’s driver was a cover-up.

The board of inquiry was composed of former and inactive judges and there were no guarantees of their independence, the party said.

Judge Philip Sciberras, the PN added, had started practising as a lawyer and was appointed to various government boards. How could Dr Muscat be believed when claiming he was independent?
