The Nationalist Party will this weekend begin the process of reviewing its policies, starting with those for the tourism industry to support the development of the sector, leader Simon Busuttil said yesterday.

“The tourism sector is crucial for job creation and strong policies are vital for the creation of more and better jobs in this sector,” he said as he gave information on a policy seminar taking place at the party headquarters on Saturday.

The seminar, which will coincide with World Tourism Day celebrations, is the first in a series being organised bythe party.

It will bring together major players in the field, such as social partners, hoteliers and operators, as well as small enterprises and operators who “live the tourism experience on the ground on a daily basis”.

PN tourism spokesman Robert Arrigo questioned the Government’s performance in the tourism sector to date, saying it was simply “riding on the positive results of the previous administration”.

Dr Busuttil said the Nationalist government had introduced myriad projects aimed at improving the tourism project and regenerating tourism zones, including a large number of projects in the Buġibba and Qawra area such as the new promenade at St Paul’s Bay, the blue flag perched beach, the new water park, the National Aquarium and the Salini Project.

He said the Nationalist Party wanted to stand out for its substance and the review of its policies and develop-ment of clear ones was the way forward.

Meanwhile, the PN leader also paid his first formal visit to the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin as Leader of the Opposition.

The PN, he told union representatives, had always treated job creation and the quality of jobs as a basis for all its policies and had already offered to help Government in the development of a clear plan for job creation in the best interest of families and industry “before it is too late”.
