The four Nationalist Party leadership contenders will hold a joint reception this evening to mark the end of a “friendly contest”.

The reception for the 900-odd councillors who will be voting in tomorrow’s leadership election will be held at the Malta Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta’ Qali.

According to contenders Simon Busuttil and Mario de Marco, the joint event is evidence of the spirit of friendship which reigned throughout the four-week campaign. The other two candidates are businessman Raymond Bugeja and Francis Zammit Dimech.

According to the party statute, the successful candidate must win the support of two-thirds of the council members to be directly elected.

Voting starts at 9am and finishes at 9pm, with a result expected soon after.
