The 12 first-time candidates were approved by the executive committee following the recommendations of a selection board chaired by former EU commissioner Joe Borg.

In a statement the PN said that more candidates would be announced in due course.

The list is made up of six men and six women. They are Alan Abela Wadge, 27 (Msida St Joseph FC president and PN councillor in Msida); Simone Aquilina, 48 (EU Policy and Legislation executive with Meusac); Dounia Borg, 41 (president of the Moroccan Community in Malta); Roselyn Borg, 36 (lawyer specialised in employment law); Charlene Camilleri Zarb, 33 (lawyer); Charlot Cassar, 44 (business development manager with Transport Malta and PN councillor in Marsascala); Ryan Mercieca, 26 (Gozo Youth Council president); Aaron Micallef, 30 (businessman and cabin crew trainer); Angelo Micallef, 28 (lawyer, broadcaster and PN councillor in Marsaxlokk); Alessia Psaila Zammit, 31, (lawyer and Net TV newscaster); Graziella Schembri, 49 (formerly known as Graziella Attard Previ, social worker and broadcaster) and Justin Schembri, 32 (teacher and MUT assistant secretary).

PN leader Simon Busuttil thanked the candidates for coming forward to serve the party and said this was part of the renewal process, which would gradually make the party radically different.
