Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has told Parliament he had no intention of raising the current situation at ST Microelectronics with French President François Hollande or the European Union.

If the situation warranted it, he would consult the Leader of the Opposition as had always been done in similar circumstances in the past five years.

The Government had been assured by the ST management there was no cause for concern in the current situation.

Dr Muscat was replying to comments from Opposition Whip David Agius asking for reassurance about the company’s decision to temporarily stop some of its lines on “forced leave”.

He said the management had told him that the situation was purely cyclical. It could just be that mention of it in a section of the media had been premature.
