It’s that time of the year when the season finales of my favourite shows hit all together. An annoying time of year, to be sure, leaving us with many a cliffhanger on one end, and eager anticipation to meet up once again with the old heroes from Suits, Franklin & Bash, True Blood, et al.

All in all, between a jilted groom, a new relationship and the potential destruction/birth of a new one... great way to wrap up the season

So, what do I make of the most recent and most popular season finales? One note to those of you who are following anything in particular right now and who have yet to see the last episode – don’t read on. Obviously, spoilers be here.

I’ll start with the most obvious one. We finally got to see a glimpse of the ‘mother’s’ face in How I Met Your Mother. Well, it only took eight years. How I Met Your Mother is one of those shows that started out on such a high note that it was impossible to think of it hitting a low point.

But as is only natural, in the course of all these years, it did. Finally, it’s been confirmed that the next season will, halleluiah, be the last one. Knowing this, everyone fully expected to be given a glimpse of the mystery woman who is supposed to be the raison d’être of the whole series by the last episode.

And we did. In what was probably one of the most annoying episodes in the whole current season – I mean, seriously, how long are we going to resuscitate the old Robin/Ted (Cobie Smulders/ Josh Radner) angst-filled story?

On the positive side, nice twist offering Marshall (Jason Segel) a judgeship just when the whole family is set to follow Lily’s (Alyson Hannigan) professional dream abroad.

Still, overall – fail.

Next up was New Girl. This is one of the shows I love to hate. On the one hand... awww Zooey Deschanel, so cute, so bubbly, so girly. On the other hand... yeugh Zooey Deschanel, so cute, etc., etc...

The lady does tend to overdo the innocent look, which sometimes sets your teeth on edge, but in compensation, the storyline is pretty hilarious. The biggest question this season, of course, has been circling around Deschanel’s character, Jess, and Nick (played by Jake Johnson). Will they, won’t they?

In all fairness, they had already ‘had’ a couple of times, but so far it seemed like it was no go to relationship land. Until the season finale, when all things become possible, including a Jess and Nick love declaration. We all totally saw that coming.

I also totally saw the wedding cancellation between Cece (Hannah Simone) and Shivrang (Satya Bhabha) coming. Where would it leave the next season if one of its hottest stars is no longer in a position to date and get up to shenanigans?

What I did not see coming, on the other hand, was Schmidt’s (Max Greenfield) dilemma in choosing between new girlfriend Elizabeth (Merritt Wever) and Cece.

All in all, between a jilted groom, a new relationship and the potential destruction/birth of a new one... great way to wrap up the season. Kudos to the New Girl team.

As I write this I’m all geared up for last week’s Big Bang Theory season ending – athough it has already aired, I haven’t actually managed to catch up yet and I’m dying to put an end to the current questions of the season.

Will Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) stay together? And will Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and his ‘girlfriend’ Lucy (played by Kate Micucci, and those who follow the show will know that I use the quotes judiciously) survive her various OCDs?

My predictions, for what they are worth, are as follows: a break-up for Penny and Leonard and unexpectedly good news for Raj. Feel free to scoff at me on a Sunday morning should I get it all horribly wrong.
