Late last month, 11 boats set off on a southward course for the International Yacht Paint Double Handed Race Round Malta with a southerly eight-knot breeze.

The boats had a beat up to Munxar Buoy. Edward Gatt Floridia, on board Otra Vez, rounded first closely followed by Ton Ton.

It was a tight reach to the Bengħajsa cardinal mark where Otra Vez managed to open a sizeable lead after flying the code zero whereas Gambin, on board Ton Ton, opted to hoist his asymmetric spinnaker and unfortunately fell behind.

The boats had a run all the way to Armier in a building breeze which reached 18 knots.

The wind then dropped to three to four knots and the fleet had difficulty rounding the point ending up in a bunch. Otra Vez managed to reach the southeast wind at Ċirkewwa first, followed by Rebel.

It was a great beat down all the way back to the Marsamxett finish line in a 15 to 18 knot southeast with Otra Vez crossing the line first at 5pm and the last boat coming in at 7pm.

Andrew Magri Overand, managing director at International Yacht Paint, handed out the trophies to the winners at the prize-giving ceremony, held at the Royal Malta Yacht Club (RMYC).

In a statement, the RMYC committee thanked International Yacht Paint for their continued support.
