A series of concerts will be held at the 18th-century Villa Bologna in Attard, a stately home that, due to its strong links with Malta’s history, is considered a heritage site.

Villa Bologna was the home of many prominent Maltese personalities, most notably former Prime Minister Lord Strickland and his daughter Mabel Strickland.

The first concert, Operatic Elegance, will present three well-known performers in the Maltese classic music scene: soprano Marita Bezzina, tenor Joseph Aquilina and pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa.

The concert will be a celebration of the elegant world of opera as the programme will focus on an eclectic repertoire of operatic arias. The performance will include arias from the operas of Puccini’s Tosca, Giordano’s Fedora, Donizetti’s Elizir d’ Amour and Boito’s Mefistofele.

The programme will also highlight arias by Mozart, namely his famous opera Le Nozze di Figaro and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, as well as an excerpt from the English composer, Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. The programme will also include two duets from Verdi’s La Traviata.

The series of concerts is being organised by the Barocco Foundation and, throughout the performances, the audience will also have the opportunity to explore the grandeur and charm of Villa Bologna.

US Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley is guest of honour at the first concert.

Operatic Elegance is being held on Wednesday at 8pm. Tickets are available by calling on 7968 0952, by sending an e-mail to bookings@baroccomalta.com or online.
