To celebrate the opening of the waste transfer and materials recovery facility at Tal-Kus in Xewkija, Wasteserv will be organising an open day at the facility today between 10am and 4pm.

Visitors will be able to meet Wasteserv officials, ask questions and clarify uncertainties about how waste will be managed in Gozo.

Apart from educational sessions on the various processes at the plant, visitors will be able to tour the premises on a trackless train, while children can participate in various games and fun activities.

The facility, which will sort and store hazardous and non-hazardous waste before it is transferred to Malta, will comprise a controlled plant for the compaction of mixed waste originating from Gozo and Comino, equipment for the shredding of bulky waste, as well as a plant for the sorting and baling of recyclable waste.

The opening of the Tal-Kus facility forms an integral part of the waste management strategy for the Maltese islands, following the closure of the Qortin landfill in 2004 and subsequent rehabilitation.

Members of the public seeking more information about this facility can visit Wasteserv’s You Tube channel.
