The Johann Strauss School of Music is hosting an open day on Friday at the main building in North Street, Valletta, for the public to become more aware of its available facilities , meet members of staff and see several presentations and lessons in action.

The activities start at 4pm and culminate with a concert at 6.15pm that will showcase some of the school’s most promising students.

The open day is intended for both young and old prospective students and parents.

Set up in 1975, the school – originally situated in Old Bakery Street, has been one of the most effective governmental schools in the music performance and artistic field.

Over the years, thousands of students have attended music lessons at the school and many of them furthered their studies both locally and abroad.

Since 2010, the school has been temporarily re-located to North Street and the Lifelong Learning Centre in Msida, awaiting the setting up of the new College of the Performing Arts.

The school also offers an outreach programme in several centres around Malta.
