For all the letters of complaint that regularly feature in the local press about the continuous shortage of certain medicines like simvastatin, nothing is done. Surely a more reliable supplier can be found.

The Ministry of Health seems to just ignore the needs of the patients whose lives depend on these types of medicines. The Minister, Joe Cassar, who projects himself to be an extremely caring figure, fails time and again to sort this serious problem out.

There is no world shortage of simvastatins so one cannot help but doubt the way, and from whom, the ministry purchases these tablets.

It is very strange that stocks are extremely healthy for those who can or are willing to pay for simvastatins over the counter... only the free ones are in short supply.

I would also like to add that many people in my area are still wondering what is happening to the pharmacy of your choice scheme in the Three Cities. As far as we are concerned it is still a rumour! It is now nearly three years since, following instructions from the Ministry of Health, I attended my local pharmacy and completed the necessary forms.
