There is only one zoo in Malta that is considered illegal in terms of Legal Notice 265/2003, Environment Minister Leo Brincat told Opposition MP Mario Galea in Parliament yesterday.

The minister added also that the police, together with the Veterinary Regulations Directorate, were taking legal action against the zoo’s owners.

Mr Brincat said that in all cases where the Animal Welfare Department was aware of the existence of exotic animals on the islands, they were all verified for the necessary certification, even if they were born in captivity.
