The Mellieha local council wants to make busy Ġorġ Borg Olivier Street one-way, heading downhill only.

Transport Malta is considering a request for a four-month trial and will also hold a public consultation meeting on January 19.

Mayor Robert Cutajar told timesofmalta.com the council felt it had to do something about the worsening situation in the village where the number of accidents has been growing, with the narrow roads unable to cope with increased traffic.

The mayor said vehicles in the village could use other roads uphill, while traffic from Għadira, Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa would be directed to the bypass.
