Recently part of Senglea front was turned into a one-way system. Now all traffic exiting Senglea has to pass through the centre of the city either through Victory Street or the narrow Two Gates Street. To exacerbate the problem this trip is uphill all the way and it is a known fact that cars on lower gear produce more pollution.

Where other localities are striving to create ring roads to divert traffic from their centres, in Senglea the reverse is the case. The reason given is that priority is to be given to coaches carrying tourists from the cruise liner terminal. But if this was really the case wouldn’t cars entering from the Maċina meet coaches going out?

I appeal to the authorities to reconsider this decision which will see an increase of pollution and traffic in the centre of this heavily populated city.
