What is the Sliema local council waiting for to safely close off the entrance to the wartime shelter in Dingli Street/Dingli Circus, which has been in its present state for a few months now? One wonders whether closure will only be carried out after a serious accident happens!

Unavoidable

A couple of relatively deep potholes have sprouted at the very top of St Ursula Street, Valletta, just by the Department of Information, making it difficult for cars to avoid. Someone needs to see to them immediately.

Low standards in the city

Anything seems to be acceptable in Valletta, which is going to be European capital in 2018. A restaurant owner, who has set up a covered area in St John’s Square, just off Merchants Street, is weighing down the plastic canopy with stone slabs held together by a belt. Where are the health and safety authorities? Don’t they patrol towns and villages to look out for such situations? How safe are such structures?

Short-changed

Subscribers to Melita’s Discovery Channel were last week cheated out of following a good documentary since they decided to air it in its original Slav dialect, without any subtitles. Where is the Standards Authority? Does it monitor the cable companies?
