Imagine a person with disabilities or a mother with a pushchair crossing the road on the seafront at Gżira. The pedestrian lights turn to red without warning. This can create a dangerous situation for those not as mobile as other pedestrians. It is also impossible for a wheelchair-bound person to press the button. It is hoped that action is taken to remedy the situation before an accident happens.

Moonscapes

Week after week, the potholes in Ta’ Qali are becoming wider and deeper and the manoeuvering of cars to avoid them can easily get one onto the lane of oncoming traffic and result in an accident. Similarly, a large, dangerous, deep pothole sprouted in Valley Road, Birkirkara, following the rains of a few days ago. Unaware drivers can easily tear their tyres against the sharp protruding remaining tarmac or the iron grating close by.

Sensationalising news

Why do PBS and private television broadcasting stations have to frequently air video and photographic shots of bloody images and scenes whenever a fatal tragedy is reported, with utter disregard to the respect due and privacy of suffering next of kin? This goes beyond fair and reasonable reporting, focusing on the sensational aspect, often deeply hurting the already fragile sentiments and emotions of grieving family members.

Hidden dangers

Both children and adults frequenting the Kalkara playing field have been spotted tripping in the protective rubber tiles, which have come up. The swings for toddlers leave much to be desired as well.

Scar in the country

Hundreds of families and tourists flock to the countryside for a breath of fresh air, especially at this time of year. However this is not the sight one would like to see on the outkirts of Żurrieq. The area shoud be brought back to its pristine condition as soon as possible.
