Many people visit Marsaxlokk on Sundays, especially because there are several good restaurants. Parking is quite a problem. Therefore, it is most unfair that the Monti hawkers block off legitimate public parking spaces with their stalls and vehicles to give themselves extra space. It is hoped the police and wardens will take note and restore order to the area. As things stand, the impression is given that certain sectors of the community are above the law, which is very bad for the country.
Stationary problem
This kiosk at The Strand in Sliema has been illegally parked at the same spot for months. It is also blocking the way with a number of freezers. Questions sent to the police have not been answered and the complaints made by the local council seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
Road hoarding . . .
Site hoarding has been erected in the middle of Paceville Street, St Julian’s, taking away parking spaces and not allowing adequate space for cars and pedestrians – let alone emergency vehicles. Is this legal?
. . . and hogging
A number of containers can be seen parked permanently in Ta’ Qali, where the market sets up on Sunday mornings. Shouldn’t containers, as is the case with heavy vehicles, be garaged overnight?
