The traffic lights just past the Lija cemetery when heading in the direction of Valletta are completely hidden by the trees. It is very difficult for motorists approaching the spot to see them. Action should be taken before some serious accident occurs.

Danger plot

There is a vacant plot adjacent to inhabited houses in Nadur. Alongside it are two trenches, approximately 1.5 metres wide and more than three metres deep. Mepa’s complaints office and the police have been informed about the danger. Young children live in the vicinity. Bulky rubbish and construction waste is being dumped there. A high boundary wall would help a lot.

Ruined valley

The person who disposed of this rubbish at Wied Qirda, limits of Siġġiewi, could only have had one aim in mind – to ruin the place. The local council should see to it that the place is cleaned up immediately and that action is taken to avoid a repetition.

Poor great show

The annual TV fund-raising marathon L-Istrina was another great success in terms of money collected and both those working behind the scenes as well as the thousands of contributors should be commended. But as an entertainment show… well, it leaves a lot to be desired. There needs to be some more creativity among the production team next time round.

Air fare

The national carrier announced earlier this month that economy class passengers will no longer be offered hot snacks and beverages while those in Club Class will enjoy an upgrade. That’s, of course, good news for premium paying passengers but the others must certainly be wondering what Air Malta meant when, in making the announcement, it was “ensuring a better customer experience”.

Crisis management

The manner in which Transport Malta dealt with the Naxxar roundabouts issue is symptomatic of the manage-as-you-go approach it adopts. It decided to block the roundabouts using bollards only to remove them less than a week later amid a public outcry. That does not say much for the transport watchdog’s long-term planning and in-depth analysis qualities.
