This picture was taken at the top of St Vincent Street, Sliema. Two cars were parked on the pavement, one of them right at the corner with High Street. Wardens were nowhere to be seen. Such instances rightly fuel suspicion that enforcement of traffic regulations has weakened.

Bouncing danger

When it rains, this manhole cover in Valley Road, Msida, is lifted by the water pressure and moves about every time a car drives on it. It’s not the first time it then remained out of position for even more than two days. Cannot a permanent solution be found? And while on the subject of manholes, those in Geronimo Abos Street, Iklin, should have a rubber lining. They are far too noisy and the heavy traffic exacerbates the situation, especially during the night.

Passenger comforts

Much needed, larger bus shelters were finally installed at Mater Dei Hospital. They are a strange design and put to the test with the storm last week when they offered little protection to commuters and even the seats became water containers. Why were they not properly enclosed structures? What is wrong with Transport Malta? The Valletta terminal is dreadful, lacking adequate shelter, seating, toilets and even a clock. Drivers waiting for their buses congregate round kiosks, occupying the few seats there. Do they not have their own rest room?

Dangerous cable

A thick cable hangs perilously over the railings of the bridge in St Louis Street, Msida. This is not only an eyesore but could be dangerous, given that the railings are made of metal.

Unhealthy practice

The nurse handling this MMDNA car, and who lives in the vicinity, often parks on a double yellow line, right at the corner of Gafà and St Mary streets, in Mosta. The vehicle remains there throughout the night and for most of the day. Motorists wanting to turn left find it difficult to manouevre their vehicles.
