Do the police in Ħamrun turn a blind eye to traffic contraventions in their locality? In the above photo a policeman stands in the station’s door, while round the corner, only a few metres away, a taxi is parked on the pavement, flagrantly breaking the law.

Also in Ħamrun, and a stone’s throw away from the police station, why are vehicles allowed to park on St Joseph High Road, alongside St Paul (Fra Diego) Square, right in front of the police station? On Saturday nights, especially, this causes congestion because patrons of the kiosk on the square find it convenient to park there.

Following the white line

A contractor painted “curvy” road markings on the newly asphalted Mosta ring road, last Friday week. A few days later, he unsuccessfully went back to try and remove them and make them straight. Does Transport Malta vet the contractors it uses or does anything go?

Hello, is anybody there?

The bus driver of Route 71 was last week caught manoeuvring the bus towards Portes de Bombes while on his mobile phone. Could he be excused because he was at the traffic lights?

More sense should be drummed into bus drivers about their responsibility towards their passengers.

Broken promises

In the Budget before last it was stated that commercial vehicles would not be allowed to use the roads before 8.30am to help the traffic flow. Another Budget has come along and the trucks and all

sorts of commercial vehicles add to the “perception” of the morning traffic confusion.

Is it such a hard thing to keep this promise? Or shall we add to the list of broken promises?
