A 10-minute walk on the Tigné promenade in Sliema can only be described as an eye-opening experience for both locals and visitors. One can easily come across construction material, left behind by contractors who do not bother to clean up, dead plants in large containers, dog excrement on pavements, litter left in front of houses which have been in the process of being pulled down for years and vans and trucks parked on the pavements illegally, blocking it completely to pedestrians. Where are the wardens?

Railed off

Railings have been installed on the centre strip between Mdina Road and Iż-Żagħfran Road, Attard, just opposite Attard Farm Supplies. That may enhance safety to pedestrians but it certainly makes life more difficult, and dangerous, for motorists turning into Mdina Road from Iż-Żagħfran Road. The material used for the railings does not allow a clear view of traffic coming from the Rabat direction towards Attard.

Everything goes

A number of cars were seen parked on St George’s Square, Valletta early on Thursday afternoon. Since when are vehicles being allowed to park on the square that cost thousands of euros to revamp?

Dumping station

Waste is being dumped on a tract of land close to the Victoria bus terminus. It is an eyesore as anybody on his way to the terminus can say. A thorough clean-up of the area is called for.

Green fingers

Green paint was used to mark the spots where lighting equipment should be installed at Vilhena Garden, Sir Luigi Preziosi Gardens and King George V Recreational Grounds, in Floriana for a big private party held at Valletta Waterfront on September 24. The markings were still there by late last week. Removable paint or self-adhesive signs could have been used instead.

Visible evidence

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting task force has left its first tangible result. This takes the form of a parking space outside the Central Bank in Valletta.
