While ordinary people must obtain a permit from the local council to be able to block part of a road, this truck driver blocked the inner lane of a main road at the end of the Mrieħel Bypass instead of finding ways to park the vehicle properly and load goods from there. This obviously created a traffic jam due to the bottleneck. This very busy stretch of road near the Flamingo store is chaotic most of the time with traffic moving at a snail’s pace if not coming to a standstill too. However, neither the traffic police nor the local council/s seem to be bothered.

Children in school vans

Thousands of students return to school this week. Hundreds of them make use of school transport. We hope the authorities will come down like a ton of bricks on any drivers who allow more students on than the stipulated number and who do not insist that their passengers wear their seatbelts. Should adult supervision in vans become compulsory?

Ahead of time

The 233 bus is scheduled to leave Swieqi Victoria Gardens at 7.13am. Last Wednesday it was at Balluta at 7.10! Two TM inspectors boarded the bus, checked a couple of tickets but completely ignored the fact that the bus was well ahead of its scheduled stop. The residents of Tal-Ibraġ and Swieqi were stranded, unaware their bus had passed them by.

Lack of safety

This photo was taken near Mater Dei Hospital last Monday. Workers were not wearing any harnesses, head gear or other safety equipment. At times they were seen standing on the white railing. What does OHSA do in such cases?

Easy exit

Can Malta International Airport kindly ensure arriving passengers have easy exit from the luggage reclaim area? Very often, relatives and friends welcoming passengers block the way.

Disgraceful

This was the state of Merchants Street, Valletta, earlier last week after the monti hawkers had dismantled their stalls. Shouldn’t they be made to clear up the mess they leave behind? Is this what we are to expect at City Gate once the hawkers are transferred to Ordnance Street?
