A vegetable ‘hawker’ is parked daily at the corner between Triq it-Torri tal-Kaptan and Triq il-Kappella tax-Xagħra, in Naxxar, blocking the view of vehicles at the stop sign. It seems the Naxxar council has asked the wardens to take measures to remove this “very difficult and dangerous” hazard. However, it seems the accidents occurring in this area are not sufficient to push the wardens to do something about it.

Wrong signage

A sign denoting parking for Valletta residents in the area that was once City Gate remains there. Considering the work that has been going on there for quite some time now, the sign is a ‘monument’ to the incompetence and/or inertia of the powers-that-be. The whole area should be revisited and any old useless signage removed immediately.

Morning after

The morning after the Isle of MTV concert, people walking into Valletta early on Thursday were greeted with Subway, Pizza Hut and McDonald’s vouchers and packaging littering the entrance to the capital. Consumers should have more civic pride and dispose of rubbish and unwanted material in rubbish bins. On the other hand, companies should think before handing out promotional material, which, they should know, is usually thrown away.

Six months later

Way back in January, this column referred to the red Mazda 323 (above) that was abandoned at the entrance/exit of the garage complex underneath the government housing estate in Triq Pietru D’Armenia, Pembroke. Yet, it is still there and a number of notices calling for its removal have disappeared. Its licence expired in March 2012. Will some authority do something about it?

Botched skyline

This photo was taken from an upper deck of a cruise liner entering the Grand Harbour. It shows the devastating effect of the Sliema/Tignè high buildings on the Valletta skyline and the recent magnificent restoration of Fort St Elmo. Planning authority directors have a lot of responsibility to carry and they are expected to show it.
