Doughnut nuisance

Doughnut shops and street vendors have, over the past few years, sprouted across Malta. However, one doughnut seller is going overboard with trying to lure town residents into buying his snacks. He continuously goes through towns and villages with a megaphone at full blast, advertising his “doughnuts of chocolate” and “filled with cream and strawberry jam”. Why is he allowed to continue with this excessive noise pollution?

No way

The double parking prevalent in St Joseph High Road, Ħamrun, leading to bottlenecks, even during the rush hour, has been raised in these columns multiple times. Yet, the abuse persists, with both the police and traffic wardens either impotent or simply not bothering to do anything about it. Transport Minister Joe Mizzi says he wants to ease the flow of traffic. What he needs to do first is press the powers that be, including the slumbering Transport Malta, to get cracking.

Mini dumps

Why is it that Marsaxlokk and areas in the vicinity are used as a rubbish dump, unlike other parts of the island? Some of these ‘mini dumps’ lie along the route that is taken by the mini train, so tourists get a first-hand taste of how the Maltese get rid of their rubbish.
