Trolleys at the airport should not be at a charge, but part of the service provided to travellers. Malta International Airport insists it has upgraded the service. Readers have however complained that users seem to be paying for the upgrade. Users were not refunded the promised €1, thus paying €2 for the use of the trolley. Furthermore, the bays where trolleys should be returned are scarce and not easily accessable. Is this another way for MIA to make more profit?

Discordant news

Radio Malta reported in the 7am news bulletin last Tuesday that the winner of the sixth seat in the European Parliament had just been announced. Minutes later, Magic Malta, also owned by PBS, said in its news briefs that counting was still ongoing to determine the sixth seat. Given what PBS must be costing the taxpayer such mistakes are unpardonable, especially since we are probably speaking of the same newsroom.

Updated lists

Weeks after a magistrate appointed a number of psychiatrists to examine a person appearing before him, he was informed that one of them had in fact died at least two years earlier. Why did it have to take so long for them to realise this? And since it is likely that the magistrate referred to some list of experts the court could resort to, why is such a register not updated constantly?

In the dumps

Complaints have poured in about the state of neglect and rubbish left by picnickers and campers at L-Aħrax in Mellieħa. This should not be. However, likewise the authorities in charge of cleanliness in the area should immediately replace the bins. Bins at L-Aħrax have lost their lining and anyone using them is simply throwing rubbish inside slotted wood. Consequently the rubbish ends up on the grass or wall, giving the area a very shabby look.
