There is a lot of restoration and excavations going on at the moment at the Gozo Citadel. In Żenqa Street (the one with the three arches next to the steps leading to the cathedral), the excavators have placed a large amount of old potsherds in three labelled bags. These bags have been left in the street with no protection. Any curious passer-by can easily pick from these bags without any control whatsoever. The history of the Gozo Citadel can be deciphered through these sherds. Shouldn’t they be stored somewhere? After all, the Gozo Museum of Archaeology is just a few metres down the road.

Embedded danger

Pedestrians walking up Valletta’s Ġlormu Cassar Avenue should keep their eyes glued to the pavement and not on the view. They could easily injure themselves if they do not see a hole (above) embedded in the pavement. Similar instances have been reported in a number of towns and villages.

Scar in the valley

Irresponsible people have evidently taken to dumping construction waste and unwanted goods in valleys. Unwanted bricks have been dumped in St Julian’s valley.

Illegal parking persists

A few weeks ago, this column highlighted the illegal parking taking place outside a car showroom at the upper end of Constitution Street, Mosta. No action has been taken and the law continues to be brazenly defied as a number of cars can still be seen parked on double yellow lines. Wardens often turn a blind eye even if they come down like a ton of bricks on any other illegal parking in the area.
