Visitors to the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta last week had to make their way through a narrow stretch between a crane and horse-drawn cabs. It was quite a tight squeeze and not at all decorous of a city that will be Europe’s cultural capital in a few years’ time.

Rubbish, rubbish everywhere

It seems that nobody cares about the Żonqor area in Marsascala. The beautiful stretch of country/ sea side from Marsascala to Xgħajra is littered with rubbish. There are CCTV cameras in the Żonqor pool area. They were set up there to record illegal dumping. Are they still functioning? Someone recently had the cheek to dump tyres, a seat and cans right in front of these cameras. Can someone clear the area?

In the shade

Meanwhile in the car park adjacent to Portes des Bombes in Floriana a green metal shed has been put up. Has a permit been sought for the structure that has been placed just outside a substation?

No parking

The brand new passenger terminal at Ċirkewwa lacks parking spaces. There are not enough parking spaces for people to cross over to Gozo without their cars. To make matters worse, even parking areas in front of the Paradise Bay Hotel, a good 10-minute walk away, are limited. One of the parking areas has an exit leading onto the pavement which, however, is too high for a car to get out onto the road. Drivers are left with no option but to drive some 75 metres on the pavement before finding a slope to get down onto the road. This must be rectified before an accident happens.
