A frustrated reader has written wondering why parents will not be allowed for the graduation of their children at Mcast on February 17 and 18. Parents would have liked to rejoice with their children who worked hard to succeed, the parent noted, also asking why the ceremony should be held at 1pm. Can the principal explain?

Water waste

Water Services Corporation was informed about what appeared to be a leak in Triq is-Sieqja, Attard. However, three days later the water was still running, evidently going to waste. The public certainly deserves an explanation from the WSC.

Welcome presence

The two Transport Malta officers, accompanied by a policeman, that can be seen directing traffic near the Independence Monument in Floriana during rush hour in the morning are a godsend. They make the traffic move even when the lights are red if there are no oncoming vehicles, thus easing the flow and avoiding bottlenecks near the War Memorial. Alas, they are not always there and sometimes turn up well after 7am, especially if it is raining. Can the matter be rectified?

Road-(un)worthy

One often wonders what is the real purpose of VRTs. One of the biggest issues lies with commercial vehicles and how roadworthy they truly are. The picture (above) of a worn-out tyre on a truck raises many questions. An expert eye can tell that this did not just happen over a few weeks or months. Surely a serious revision of the way the VRT is conducted and the enforcement of safety regulations on high-usage vehicles would be in order.

Road block

The local council and the Naxxar police need to have a look at the situation in St John’s Street corner with Bishop Tumas Gargallo Street, in Għargħur. Vegetable and fruit boxes can often be spotted on part of one of the carriageways there. As a result, motorists find it difficult to negotiate the corner. Cars and vans are usually also parked on the remaining part of the street. A van without registration number is occupying precious parking space. The situation for pedestrians is worse, because one has to walk in the middle of the road.

Field dump

This is what a field close to the Kappara roundabout looks like. Describing it as an eyesore would, of course, be a gross understatement. It is a shame that the owner should be allowed to let it deteriorate to such a state, more so if it belongs to the government. Which authority will move first to order a thorough clean-up? Don’t hold your breath.
