These two photos were sent in by one of our readers who was appalled at the state of City Gate, which is slowly but surely being turned into a very expensive souk. The first is the scene that greeted him on entering Valletta, the other bid him farewell.

Fridge with a view

A fridge and an old stereo system have been dumped at Birguma, only minutes away from the Magħtab landfill. Couldn’t the irresponsible litterbug have driven his car to the nearby civic amenity and dump the lot legally?

Parking problems

A green Hyundai has been parked in Dun Mikiel Rua Street, Sliema, for at least four months. Its road licence has expired and has not been renewed. A number of warden tickets have been applied, to no avail. It has also been reported to the police. The car owner has now covered the windscreen with a cloth, preventing the expired licence from being clearly visible to passing wardens.

Customer care

The management of the San Ġwann Lidl store should send their staff on customer care courses. Handlers inside the distribution area, which is only separated from the shop floor by a plastic door, should be aware that their voices can be heard in the shop. Only last Tuesday evening customers were left appalled after hearing staff using obscene language and swearing.

Power of the pen

Only last Monday we complained about the neglected state of the area near the Lascaris War Rooms in Valletta. Well done to the Cleansing Directorate within the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure who took up the project and cleaned the area.

Not so smart!

Isn’t SmartCity situated in the area between Kalkara and Xgħajra? Why has a sign pointing towards City Gate been put up at Floriana, just metres away from the War Memorial? Is there something we don’t know?
