Trees in the lower part of Valley Road, Msida, just by the Għajn tal-Ħasselin, have grown too much – they have not only outgrown the centre strip but have actually raised the level of the road. It has become very dangerous for road users who are unaware of them, especially when it rains heavily and the roots are covered in water.

Road casualty

The heavy rains have hit the Maltese islands and left the usual casualties – the roads and consequently cars. Large potholes have appeared in most main roads, including the stretch leading from Mrabat to San Ġwann. Last week potholes across the road from the Għajn tal-Ħasselin in Msida were asphalted. However potholes further up the road in Valley Road have been growing and becoming deeper Why were they not filled in? Could it be because it’s a different council who should be responsible? If so they should be seen to without further delay, before more damage is done to a road which was redone recently.

Hang on and on...

A client called HSBC on 2380 2380 to make enquiries. After pressing a list of numbers, as instructed, he finally got to the section he wanted where a recorded message kept repeating that all customer service representatives were busy at that moment, so “please continue to hold. Your call will be answered as soon as possible”. That took more than eight minutes. Evidently the bank needs more people manning such lines.

Suggestions needed

The photo shows the suggestion box at Mater Dei Hospital. Last week, no papers were available, prompting readers to ask whether or not the authorities were interested in any suggestions.

Behind the times

The service at the Maltapost head office in Marsa is extremely good. However customers can only pay in cash or by cheque. It is about time that it installs some point of sale machines, considering that most people nowadays are making more use of plastic money.

Shelter please

Users of the MCP car park in Floriana would really appreciate if the management decided to cover the entrance and exit areas. They do not like the fact that they get drenched every time it rains and they have to enter or exit the car park.

Christmas cheer...

Christmas lights are on in Swieqi Road. Great. But under these lights a Lada car has been abandoned for the past six months. It serves as a great repository for a shop’s rubbish at night. The rubbish and abandoned car under the lights make a wonderful Christmas card.

... or lack thereof

The theft of Christmas decorations from roundabouts seems to have begun. A couple of ornaments bought by Gudja council for the roundabout in Dawret il-Gudja have already gone missing. A public sense of ownership should be adopted by one and all. Meanwhile, in Marsascala, residents have reacted negatively to a letter they were sent by the council informing them that this year it would not be putting up any Christmas decorations due to lack of funds.
