This electrical consumer unit, below the Tal-Qroqq skate park roundabout, was found open to the elements and prying fingers. While public access to the unprotected side of the power supply is a very serious safety issue, it also means that any potential mugger is in complete charge of the secure lighting system. Imagine the panic even if someone just switched off the lights for fun. No wonder people don’t use this rabbit warren.

Power of the pen

Well done to the authorities who took heed of our complaint a few weeks ago and trimmed the bushes in Notabile Road, Mrieħel. The photo shows the area with the bushes trimmed.

Off road

On Thursday an ambulance involved in an accident with a bus at Tal-Qroqq caught fire. Will Transport Minister Joe Mizzi now encourage his colleague, the health minister, to take the ambulances off the road, in the same way he had decided to do in the wake of bendy buses fires? The question is being put tongue in cheek, of course. But you never know!

Political satire

A few days ago, Labour MP Justyne Caruana missed the Gozo ferry. In a Facebook post somebody suggested she should have called it back. She immediately answered that one “needed friends” to be able to do that, which many could only have concluded was a reference to what her colleague, the Gozo Minister, had reportedly done (though he denies it). She may or may not have been joking but some humour in this boring political scene of ours would certainly do us a lot of good. More of the same, please.

Lights to go

The traffic lights near Zara, in Sliema are still not functioning. To make matters worse, the zebra crossing in the vicinity needs to be painted as it can hardly be seen by motorists, making it extremely dangerous for pedestrians.

Who’s to blame?

Who should be held responsible for cleaning up bird pooh covering pavements in a number of towns and villages? Some pavements in Birkirkara have become no-go areas and pedestrians have no option but to walk out onto the middle of the narrow roads because they are disgusted by the sight.

Traffic jammed

Traffic heading towards St Joseph High Road in Ħamrun from the Mrieħel and Birkirkara areas is always relatively slow during the rush hours because of bottlenecks there. Imagine what it was like on Friday when a huge container was parked there to unload merchandise. The result was a nightmare for motorists.

Concrete jungle

This photo shows a concrete structure just outside the girls’ secondary school in Mrieħel. It is meant to act as a safety measure. Just beyond it is a large drop leading down to an underground tunnel. However, there is nothing to hinder curious youths from climbing on to the structure.
