Part of Triq l-Isperanza in Mosta, the part between the Fitwell showroom and Tarzan Gunshop, has been in pitch darkness for at least 10 days. Residents have called Enemalta a number of times, as has the local council. However nothing has been done yet. The darkness makes homes an easy target for thieves.

Dwejra’s new monument

There is a brand new monument in the middle of Dwejra Square in Gozo. It consists of a generator that supplies electricity to the Centre of National Education opened just a few days before the general election. Since there is no electricity in Dwejra this centre has to be operated by a generator and thanks to a Mepa decision this was installed in the middle of the square!

Hazard to boats

And further north, at Marfa, the light on the jetty also needs to be replaced since the area is completely in the dark. The jetty is used by fishermen and a number of tourist boats. Tourists frequent the area, which is very open to the elements and can be dangerous to people who do not know it well.

Cut off

Residents of St Elijah Street, in St Julian’s, were unduly inconvenienced on Thursday evening courtesy of a motorist who parked his car at the end of the road in such a way as it blocked access to an Enemalta repair van. Sparks were seen flying from a distribution box on top of a balcony and Enemalta was immediately informed. Technicians were on site within minutes but, alas, could do nothing before the wrongly parked car was removed.

City entrance

Taxis and delivery vans can occasionally be seen driving out of the newly built City Gate. Is this allowed or is it abuse? Are there any security arrangements in place there? Unlikely given this and other abuse, including the graffiti of a few weeks back. Should security not be provided 24/7 given the cost and prestige of the project?

Pointless bin

In Dawret it-Tunnara, Mellieħa (Għadira), close to the Tas-Sellum Residential complex, there is a notice informing all and sundry about the need to collect dogs’ excrement and the dire penalties awaiting those who fail to comply. A bin is provided for dog owners. However, the bin is rarely emptied and is constantly overflowing with bags of excrement. The garbage collection service ignores it and calls to the council are a waste of time. What’s the point of this bin?

Stale news

Commuters on their way to work in the morning are likely to tune in to the news bulletin at 7 on Radio Malta. In the past, it used to be just news headlines but now it is a full bulletin. Unfortunately, it is usually a matter of yesterday’s news today. Often, items that can be easily updated with a quick phone call remain unchanged from the night before.

If you have any item for On The Dot, send it to onthedot@timesofmalta.com. Please include all particulars especially a contact telephone number. Items are sent under the express understanding and condition that the editor may, and is authorised to, disclose any/all of the personal information mentioned above to any person or entity requesting the information for the purposes of legal action on grounds that such person or entity feels aggrieved by the item published.
