• A country road off the Imrieħel bypass is serving as a rubbish tip. It should be cleared immediately and not allowed to grow any larger.

The heat is on

• Why haven’t the bus shelters at the former St Julian’s bus terminus (stop called San Ġiljan) and the Sliema ferries been re-installed following the infrastructure works in both areas? With summer temperatures on the rise, waiting in the sun without any spot of shade is murderous.

Gozo campus

• In an article on this newspaper a few days ago, a former Labour MP made his case for a fully-fledged University campus in Gozo. What do the education authorities think about this? Does the University rector feel it makes sense? Has there ever been a study to determine scientifically if such a project would be feasible both in terms of the number of students it can attract and the expenses involved?

Protruding danger

• A Times of Malta reader three years ago reported abuse by a building contractor who decided to take up part of the road leading from Tal-Balal to Tal-Ibraġ. The reply received had been that nothing could be done since excavations were taking place. A driver was not so fortunate last week, after he crashed into the extension. He was lucky, considering there is a three-storey drop beyond that wall.

Clinical move

• It seems the decision by the Health Ministry to move the polyclinic from the centre of Victoria to the General Hospital did not go down well with many, mainly because of the location. If the move is necessary because more space is required, then, perhaps, the health authorities can make use of connecting government-owned space/rooms.

Uncovered maintenance hole

• On the traffic island in St Andrews Road, Swieqi, immediately opposite the Arriva park & ride facility, and next to the traffic lights, there is a maintenance hole that has been left uncovered for weeks. Although various requests have been made to Transport Malta, including by the Swieqi local council, it remains uncovered. It is a danger to everyone and should be attended to without further delay. It is another case of sheer carelessness on the part of the pertinent authority not to have seen to this immediately.

Static eyesore

• This car has been abandoned in upper Ross Street, St Julian’s for the last 10 weeks, according to residents. It seems neither the police nor the local council is empowered to remove it. They have been informed time and time again about it but there it remains. As the vehicle still has its registration number it should not be that difficult for the owner to be traced. What’s happening?
