Courting danger

Many pedestrians risk life and limb while crossing eight lanes just past Portes des Bombes in Floriana. They are a hazard not only to themselves but also to the hundreds of drivers every single day. A pedestrian subway, that is well lit, though it may need a regular clean-up, is only a stone’s throw away.

Crumbling structure

The stone pillars surrounding the Birkirkara primary school are deteriorating. Most of them, especially those on Anġlu Mallia Street, are literally falling to pieces and are a real hazard to all the pupils who make use of the pavements on their way to/from school. Immediate action please!

Health and safety

Is the practice of hanging stuff from cranes safe and acceptable? This photo was taken in Kappara at 6pm on Tuesday, when force eight winds were forecast.

Line of shame

The long lines of people queuing to get their immigration and/or citizenship papers in order persist, almost on a daily basis now but especially on Fridays at Castille, Valletta. The Prime Minister himself has already commented about this, yet the shameful circus continues. If the top officials there ignore even what the Prime Minister says about their performance, then, perhaps the Public Service Commission might do the trick.

To park or not to park

When the Ferries in Sliema was revamped, a stretch of land had been spared for use by the band clubs in the district during the village feasts. Why not utilise this area for parking purposes when it is not in use?

Lack of sunscreen

Why is it that football supporters were asked by police officers on duty at Ta’ Qali to throw away sun creams and bottles of water? Is this the norm or a one-off?

Open ended

This sewage manhole on a pavement in Psaila Street, Birkirkara has been in this state for months and, yet, no one does anything about it despite the serious injury it may cause to pedestrians. For the record, the stretch where it is located is not covered by street lighting, making it even more dangerous.

Attard chaos

This column has repeatedly pointed out the chaos in Attard every morning that brings traffic to a standstill. The lack of a proper traffic system is glaring, as is the absence of Transport Malta officials or traffic policemen who are deployed in other problem areas such as Msida. The photo above taken last Wednesday needs no further comments.
