Last week this truck was followed out of Mosta in blatant breach of the law. Where are the wardens and police when needed? Where can members of the public report such abuse, without being abused in return?

Chaotic congestion

Transport Malta should seriously reconsider its decision to stop sending its employees to manage traffic near AFS Ltd in Attard every morning. Since they’ve been gone, congestion has reached remarkable levels, with bumper-to-bumper traffic reaching the Ta’ Qali entrance on the Rabat Road and the MFSA intersection in the opposite direction. Moreover, a traffic management plan should be devised for that area to make it possible for cars coming from Żebbuġ to turn directly towards Valletta rather than having to drive all the way round, creating more traffic and congestion.

Sit and wait

The Electoral Commission ought to install seating at the counting hall in Naxxar. During casual elections, including for MEPs last week, candidates spent all day on their feet, having to sit on the ground for a rest. Apart from being degrading for candidates, the lack of seating is also a nightmare for their agents and journalists. The recent casual election lasted from 8am to around 6.30pm – can you imagine standing for 10 hours non-stop?

Urinal welcome

Tourists walking into the Upper Barrakka gardens last Thursday were treated to a nasty stench thanks to the contractors who were entrusted with loading and driving off with the mobile toilets used at an event. The workers could not bear the weight to get the mobile toilet onto their truck so they decided to tilt it to make it a bit easier. The result? Litres of days-old urine splashed onto the ground leaving tourists covering their noses. Not only did they not bother but they drove off minutes later. It seems common sense is too much to ask for in this country.

Health priorities

Atorvastatin, a cholesterol-lowering drug given to patients through the Pharmacy of Your Choice Scheme, has been out of stock for four weeks. What a shame. Some things never change, despite promises to the contrary. What are patients with high cholesterol expected to do?

Simple courtesy

On April 21, at 3.45pm, in calm waters, the Gaudos hit the concrete quay with a strong jolt, shocking passengers. No serious injuries were reported. However an apology from Gozo Channel is the least one would expect. An assesment should also be carried out to verify the extent of the damage.
