• Yellow lines have been repainted in Island Promenade, Buġibba, along what used to be a bus lane, which does not exist anymore. Residents of the area and visitors are being deprived of these parking spaces which used to exist before the bus lane was introduced. Consideration for residents is being called for.

Moonscapes

• It seems like the Buġibba council does have the time to paint yellow lines. Can it also find time and money to see to the terrible roads in the locality? One such street is Ġulju Street, where deep craters make it not only difficult but also dangerous to navigate.

Many happy returns

• It has recently become the custom for Junior College to ‘celebrate’ birthdays of some of their friends by tying them to a tree outside the college and pelting them with flour, eggs, tomato sauce, oil, etc. to the accompaniment of very rude language. When the party is over a mess is left in the area. Surely the police can look into this flagrant breach of the law against littering. A couple of court appearances would make these young people behave better!

Picnic leftovers

• Cameras should be installed at the Ferries in Sliema and anybody breaking the law or littering booked. A taxi driver waiting in his cab in front of the Bank of Valletta branch left his picnic remains outside the car instead of in a rubbish bin.

Health check

• The recent agreement between the health authorities and the doctors’ union is, of course, welcome. But it does not suffice that we are told health centres will be open until 8pm. What really matters is what sort of service will be offered there throughout all opening hours and, more importantly, the attitude of those giving the service, especially the doctors, which, at times, leaves a lot to be desired.

Double parked

• The lack of traffic enforcement in Ħamrun features again in these columns. But, of course, neither the police nor the local wardens seem to be willing to do anything about it. Delivery vans have a habit of double parking opposite a self-service store in the upper part of St Joseph High Road. One can only imagine what this means during the rush hour, especially when Arriva buses happen to be passing by in both lanes.

Speedy action

• The Valletta local council or whoever was responsible for it deserves to be publicly commended for taking swift action and building a ramp on the Boffa Hospital side of the zebra crossing at the foot of Ġlormu Cassar Avenue, Valletta. People who use a wheelchair and parents pushing prams, in particular, would be eternally grateful.

Clean underpass

• Can the Floriana local council kindly have a look at the state of the two subways in St Anne Street? One of them, in particular, needs a thorough clean-up. No wonder not too many pedestrians use them!
