Abortion shouldn’t be legal under any circumstance except if the mother’s life is at stake, as otherwise an innocent person with potential would be killed. Adoption is always available if the pregnancy is unwanted.

I would favour a ban on abortion as even in the case of rape or incest, as one can give the baby up for adoption if the child is unwanted.

Every couple should have a right to raise a child, but in the case of same-sex couples, issues such as bullying and the type of environment the child is being raised in, make the matter questionable.

In biological terms, egg and embryo freezing are not regarded as the same thing, but on an ethical level, embryo and egg freezing are both used to describe the same procedure, that is, fertilisation taking place outside the uterus.

Infertile couples should be provided with the option of in-vitro fertilisation, nonetheless doctors should not be obliged to do so unless this becomes legal. Martina Mizzi, B.Sc. Biology and Chemistry, 3rd year.

Abortion should be illegal in all circumstances as there is no ethical justification for the murder of human beings, both in and out of the womb. I favour a ban on abortions. The end doesn’t justify the means and a utilitarian approach towards abortion is still morally wrong.

Regarding IVF I do not think there should be freezing of embryos or eggs.

An egg is a potential human being while an embryo is a human being with potential.

To freeze something that can someday become a human being is harmless, but to freeze a human being is immoral.

Doctors are obliged to provide every opportunity for couples to have offspring yet they are ethically obliged to ensure no embryos are frozen or killed.

I respect same-sex couples but it is a slippery slope when children are involved. It confuses children about gender roles and expectations of society.

Many people assume that abortion will at least help a rape or incest victim put the assault behind her and get on with her life. However, evidence shows that abortion adds to the traumatic experience.

I believe abortion would be justified as a last resort in cases where the mother’s life is seriously endangered. Ethically speaking, egg freezing is justified while embryo freezing is not, as human life would have begun and it may not be destroyed or harmed.

Same-sex couples should have the option to raise a child if they are deemed responsible. Michael Agius, B. Com. Economics - Banking and Finance, 2nd year.
