Upcoming 18-year-old soprano Celine Marie Abela will today be performing a selection of mostly baroque arias from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries as well as excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and Haydn’s The Creation, at the oratory of St Francis church in Valletta.

The concert, titled Antiche arie, will also include works by Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti and two arias by Pergolesi, one of which is an excerpt from his opera La Serva Padrona.

The soprano will be accompanied on the piano by John Anthony Fsadni.

Proceeds from the event will go to the restoration project of the Franciscan church.

The recital is being held today at the Oratory of St Francis, Valletta at noon. Tickets may be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins.  For more details, call 7968 0952 or send an e-mail to baroccomalta@gmail.com.
