I refer to the letter by Alfred Mangion (July 26). I fully agree with it and would also like to point out the abuse of public pavements by many business outlets that make use of ‘street furniture’ to enlarge their business area.

I live in Sliema and find that restaurants, pizzerias, ice cream outlets and whatever else make walking on narrow pavements impossible and hazardous for the elderly and people with children.

There are laws in Malta to prevent this happening but they are ignored and the enforcement authorities do not seem interested, even when reported.
