More than 650 people were involved in non-fatal accidents at work in the first three months of the year, according to the National Statistics Office.

Nearly a quarter of the accidents occurred in the manufacturing sector, 107 in construction and 72 in the transportation and storage sector.

When compared to the corresponding quarter last year, the number of accidents grew by 31 in transportation and storage, 29 in manufacturing and 19 in construction.

Thirty-five fewer accidents were registered in the wholesale and retail trade sector.

Wounds and superficial injuries together with dislocations, strains and sprains were the most common types of injuries.

Nearly half the injuries affected the upper parts of the body and almost a third of all accidents occurred at work places that had more than 500 employees.
