The nominees for Italy’s annual football awards – the Oscar del Calcio – have just been released.

The awards, now in their 15th edition, are voted for by the AIC (Italian players association) and is the country’s equivalent of England’s PFA Awards, with the ceremony held on January 24.

Among those listed for the honours are Claudio Marchisio, Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Antonio di Natale.

Some prizes have already been assigned though as striker Cavani topped the scoring charts for 2011 thanks to his 28 goals for Napoli and current Italy champions Milan earned more points over the calendar year than any other team in Serie A.

There are seven categories to be contested and the most coveted title – the Player of the Year – goes to one from the winners of Best Italian Player and Best Foreigner.

The 2011 list also includes ex-Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez and Samuel Eto’o, formerly of Inter. They joined Barcelona and Anzhi respectively over the summer.
