Following a successful first edition of B’Ħilti Wasalt (National Award for Self-Achievement), which acknowledges self-help by individuals within the poverty-risk sector, the John XXIII Peace Lab is now accepting nominations for this year’s award.

The award, organised under the patronage of President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and sponsored by APS Bank, is also aimed at encouraging the empowerment of people who show evidence of social solidarity.

Last year’s winning self-achiever was 71-year-old Karmenu Grima, whose hard work and diligence turned him from a struggling fruit and vegetable distributor to a thriving businessman.

The deadline for submission of nominations is June 30.

Nominations may be submitted by filling a form which can be obtained by sending an e-mail to bhiltiwasalt@gmail.com or victoraxiak@gmail.com or sending the form by post to The Award Committee, B’Ħilti Wasalt, Peace Lab, Ħal Far.
