Is it not enough that people living in Malta have to put up with all the petards, church bells, noisy traffic, alarm sirens, etc? Now there is a new intolerable intrusion on the peace and tranquillity of the evening and night. This is the funfair at Manoel Island.

The loud anti-social music and lmicrophone announcing the fun of this ghastly fair are unacceptable. The loud and repetitive noise starts early evening at around 5 p.m., and continues far into the night with the volume increasing as the night wears on.

Would it be possible for the authorities responsible for granting a licence to this dreadful funfair to insist on a lowering of the decibels so that it is a background sound rather than all pervasive intrusion of noise not only for all residents in the surrounding area but also reaching up into the heights of Sliema and St Julian’s?

I am certain that my response to this unadulterated cacophony is reflected in the homes and outside terraces of many other people.
