The pack of dogs that were attacking sheep in Mġarr in September seems to have vanished, as no sightings have been reported since April.

At least 16 sheep were killed at six farms and many others were injured but it was never clear what breed the dogs were and how big the pack was.

Since then, farmers have been locking up their sheep in their pens at night.

The Animal Welfare Department first received reports about the sheep attacks in April but it failed to track down the dogs.

Animal welfare officers have just carried out new inspections in the area but the dogs could not be traced, the department said.
