Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri hinted yesterday that Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani could start in today’s Serie A clash with Parma despite a Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich next week.

“The match against Parma is the beginning of a new cycle, so there is no need for us to rest players just now,” Mazzarri said.

“Cavani is in good shape physically and is an extraordinary athlete.”

Cavani has already scored three times in Serie A this season, all in the 3-1 win against Milan, and once in the Champions League.

He has also just returned from international duty with Uruguay, for whom he scored in a 4-2 win against Bolivia before playing 90 minutes in Tuesday’s draw in Paraguay.

Napoli currently lie third in Serie A, one behind leaders Juventus.
